I have been really bad about updating my blog lately but I have finally gotten to updating it. I made some adjustments to photos in the scrapbook entries to reflect the copyright and then added the new title page and cover of album as well.

Although I'm not sure when I'll update or add more entries I am hoping to do some major updating very soon. I figure it probably won't be until after Thanksgiving but if I get a chance before then I will do my best to use it to update.

Here are pages 14 & 15 complete for my baseball scrapbook. Man am I on a roll. I only have to make one page this week to be caught up on my goal. :) 15 pages completed of 52 --- only 37 to go!!!

For those of you not familiar with baseball the "K" is the symbol used for a strikeout and not some sort negative symbol. I guess it's negative if you're the batter who has struck out but as far as my scrapbook is concerned its not negative.

The journaling reads:

"And what a return it was. Not only did Pedro make is debut return from calf and rotator cup injuries but he pitched his 3000th strikeout and led the team to victory. Although I was really excited to see history being made by the Mets, I couldn’t help but think of Jody and how he always seems to miss out on all the great moments. If it weren’t for Jody’s love of the Mets and David Wright’s good looks I probably wouldn’t have gone to Cincinnati to see the Mets play and as a result I wouldn’t have seen Pedro make history with his 3000th strikeout. It was amazing to be in attendance for such a wonderful baseball moment and I hope that I’ll get to experience even more in the future."

Here is yet another 2 page spread that I've done. I made it last night and decided to go ahead and share it with you because all I have left to do is glue down everything. I think I might move down the letters a bit and add something along the lines of Apparently, David Wright has been giving lessons because it appears that ... THE WHOLE TEAM HAS THE WRIGHT STUFF! Anyway... regardless if I add the additional journaling or not... I'm proud of the outcome and I hope you enjoy the pages!

Warming Up the Wright Way!!!

Here is the next two pages for my baseball scrapbook. These pages were inspired from a layout I found online and since I had so many pages with David Wright warming up before the game in Cincinnati I needed to find a way to use the majority of them so I wouldn't have to actually pick a few of them. David Wright clearly is one of my favorite baseball players.

Recipe:
Pictures are 3x3 and there are 9 of them mated with Whisper White. I then used Only Orange & Brilliant Blue. I don't recall which Cricut cartridge I used to cut out the title but that's how I got the title and then used the photo corner punch by SU to punch out the photo corners that I put in just the 2 opposite corners on the two pages. I needed a little something for down the sides to spice up the pages so I took just pieces of paper that were 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 and put them down the sides to make the illusion of stripes.

Go Reds --- Kinda Sorta, Not Really!!!

This is the 4th 2 page spread for my Cincinnati Game/Trip section of my baseball scrapbook. I'm on a roll and just can't seem to stop scrapbooking, however it will be placed in the 2nd spot in the section as far as order of pages goes. If that makes sense. Anyway... like I said I'm on a roll. I've set up a goal to scrapbook a single page a week so that I can get 52 pages done by the end of the year. Currently, I have 9 pages done and need to get 6 more done so I can be on track for my goal. This really shouldn't be that hard but we'll have to wait and see how it all goes. Even if I don't reach the goal it won't matter because at least I'll get quite a few pages done in the attempt at reaching the goal and I'll be proud with the final outcome of the scrapbook.

The journaling reads:

"Okay so the fact that Scott is wearing a NY Mets jersey in the picture makes the title a bit far fetched, but I thought I would at least give a small shout out to the home team. After all they lost badly & their fans were extremely outnumbered. It just doesn’t seem natural to me that the away team would have more fans in attendance then the home team. However, it didn’t seem to bother the Reds’ fans that much because they still were super nice to us, even though we were clearly cheering for the Mets."

Fireworks the Night before the Game

I got another 2 page spread done for the Cincinnati section of my baseball scrapbook. I am definately on a roll and enjoying every moment of making these pages. Well maybe not every moment but pretty darn close to it. I am hoping and planning on getting another two pages done tonight after work, but since my photo sorter didn't arrive yesterday like it was suppose to and was rescheduled for delivery today I'm hoping I get it early enough to get a bit of the sorting done and the another page at least some what done. We'll see ... I never know for sure until I'm there working on something.

The journalling on this page reads...

After sitting in traffic for an hour heading into Cincinnati we finally arrived and got checked into the Westin. While checking in we encountered several of the NY Mets players which was absolutely amazing. However, my curiosity got the best of me so we followed the crowds of people toward the river like a bunch of lemmings. Once by the river we were surprised to find out that there was going to be a fireworks show, which Cincinnati has every Labor Day weekend. So we decided to stick around and enjoy the incredible fireworks show.

Navy Day @ the Ballpark

Here are the next 2 pages for my scrapbook. They probably will not be going in the next spot but they are the next ones I made for the trip to the game in Cincinnati part of my scrapbook. I hope that makes sense. I didn't like what I came up with at first but after playing around with it some more I finally came up with a product I liked.

I had no clue that it was going to be Navy Day @ the Ballpark but it was sort of nice because my husband is in the Navy and enjoyed seeing all the other guys in their uniforms and such. It was a great day at the ball park even though it was 110 in the shade.

Road Trip Summers - Title Page for Baseball Scrapbook (1)

This is the title page for my first scrapbook in which I've decided to document all the summer trips I've taken over the years to see baseball games. I'm also going to include pictures of baseball games that family & friends have taken that I didn't necessarily attend but since they're baseball I'm putting them into this book as well. I'm very excited about the whole book and everything I've thought up so far for it. The list is a list of all the ballparks I've been to in my life. Part of me says I don't remember having been to the old Milwaukee Brewers ballpark but my dad insists I have been. He also insists I've been to the Cleveland Indians ballpark but I know for a fact that I've never been to Cleveland. I am 100% sure I stayed home that year because I've never been to Kings Island Amusement Park either and that's the summer which my dad, mom, & brother went there. I stayed home because I had to work. :( Anyway... I counted the Milwaukee ballpark since I somewhat recall it but I didn't count Cleveland because I'm so sure I haven't been there. I'm not worried about it because I'm sure I can make it to Cleveland at some point and mark that ballpark from the list anyway and have pictures to prove it. There are no pictures to proof the old Milwaukee ballpark. ****After talking to my parents it apparently wasn't Cleveland that they claim I've been too. They thought it was the old Cincinnati Ballpark. I'm not sure if it was actually a different ballpark or just the same ballpark with a different name since they change names fairly frequently. But my mom agrees that she didn't think I went because I was already away for college that summer and she didn't recall me having went to Kings Island with the family.

I came up with the name for the book because of two things... 1 because I grew up hearing about how the home team always had the advantage and that "road trips" were always tough because the away team lost the advantage of being at their home stadium. 2 because not only was the away team on a road trip when they played the game I am documenting but I'm on a road trip as well. Road trips for me are much more fun though and I always enjoy watching baseball in person especially when my favorite team or now teams are playing. I know it is totally wrong but I'm a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets. I grew up being a Cardinals fan and then I blame the recent obsession with the Mets on my friend Jody and the Mets absolutely amazing in every way imaginable third basemen David Wright. Not only do I have this weird combo of favorite teams but my husband does too... though is is slightly more unusual because he grew up a Chicago Cubs fan and it was the Mets that beat the Cubs to make it the World Series back in like 1969. As you can somewhat see the Mets are the only team that my husband and I agree on. This also applies to every other sport imaginable. We don't agree on anything. He likes Iowa... I like Illinois... He likes the Bears... I like the Packers... The List just goes on and on.

The page above was really simple to make. I didn't do any stamping and used my cricut and computer for the most difficult parts. Below is the recipe for what I used. If you want more exact details let me know, but I think it's pretty self-explanatory.

First of Many Scrapbook Pages

This is the first of many scrapbook pages that I've done all on my own without casing someone else or having someone tell me what to do. I made this 2 page layout for my scrapbook I've recently started to work on. I'm going to make one with all my trips to baseball stadiums and probably will also include other family vacations in there as well. I've decided to call the book.... "Roadtrip Summers." It's sort of a play on the fact that I"m taking roadtrips in the stories and photos and the fact that the baseball teams are often on roadtrips as well. LOL.

The journaling reads:
"Who would have ever guessed that a week in NYC would lead to a trip to Cincinnati to see the NY Mets play the Cincinnati Reds over Labor Day weekend? Well it did and although the 5 hour trip actually took 6 because of the bumper-to-bumper traffic going into the city. It was more then worth the drive. The Reds have a beautiful stadium but the fact that it was 110 in the shade and there was no breeze to be found anywhere was a bit of a downer. In fact, I ended up getting sick and missed the last 2 complete inning of the game. Even after experiencing the evils of heat exhaustion, I still would make the trip again but maybe next time, I’ll check the forecast a bit better and remember the sunscreen and portable fan!!!"

I made these cards based off a card I saw on SCS using the So Very set but since I wanted to make thank you cards and I didn't have a set that would go with the So Very that would say SO VERY GRATEFUL. I made 50 of these cards and kept 25 of them for myself and then sold the other 25 to a friend. We each got 5 of each of 5 colors. My very favorite ones were the Tempting Turquoise cards. Unforunately, I forgot to take a picture of all of them before I started using them. I really need to get better at taking pictures of the cards as soon as they're done, so this doesn't happen so much.

Winter Swirls - August 2007

I made this card for a swap I participated in as part of a yahoo group. I stamped the tree in whisper white craft ink and then embossed the tree in whisper white embossing powder. For the background I used the shaving cream technique. It is pretty simple to do. I have found the best type of shaving cream is the cheap stuff from the dollar store. It does not work with the gels it must be the white cream kind. Once you've sprayed some shaving cream on a paper plate or something like that and then you just take a few drops of re-inkers and swirl them around with a plastic knife or something similiar. Then you put your paper down on top of the shaving cream for a few seconds and then pull it up and whip off the shaving cream and the paper now has a nice swirly/tie dye effect. I plan on making another card using this technique again and will make a tutorial at that time for this technique.

March Blog Challenge - 2008

Here is the challenge for March... I know I'm a few days late but I'm still doing better then last month.

The challenge for this round is to make a card or scrapbook page using the One Sheet Wonder (OSW) technique. Basically you create your own designer paper by stamping a variety of images in a variety of colors. You can use as many or as few images and colors as you but once you're sheet is stamped to you liking, you then get to cut it up to make several cards. The number of cards you can make using a OSW depends on how big the piece of stamped paper is and how big of pieces you cut them into. I've seen people take 1 sheet of 12x12 paper and come up with as many as 10-20 cards. For my card I only got 4-6 cards from a sheet because I used a 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and I didn't have the exact measurements figured out when I started cutting. I know bad me. I could have used the scraps to make a card with a different layout then the one attached her but this was the card I wanted to make so I didn't use the scraps. The reason for the lack of measurements before hand was because I was casing the card and didn't follow the original design exactly. Sorry I can't recall at this time who it was I cased it from. They did a wonderful job and though I changed a few things I didn't change much.

Sweet Scallops - January 2008

So I finally got around to posting a picture of my first Sale-a-bration card. I love the So Many Scallops set and am working on making some more cards with different layouts and such. So far this one is definitely my favorite though. Not only do I love this stamp set but I also love this berry bliss paper. It seems to coordinate perfectly with the stamp set.

The card is very easy to make and I'm working on trying to provide more details in my blogs with directions and such so forgive me if this gets wordy.

Card Recipe:
Stamps: So Many Scallops
Paper: Berry Bliss DP, Pretty in Pink, Purely Pomegranate
Ink: Purely Pomegranate
Accessories: Large Brass Eyelets, Soft Subtle Brads, Crop-a-dile, & Paper Piercer

To make the card I started out with a piece of 5 1/2 x 11 piece of pretty in pink paper. I then folded that in half and used the bone folder to smooth out the fold. For the next layer I cut a piece of purely pomegranate that was 5-1/4 x 4. I then cut the berry bliss designer paper which is (I'll have to look it up and let you know). Then I went onto the center pieces. I stamped the so many scallops image on whisper white and then used the SU Scallop Punch to punch out the image. Then you use the crop-o-dile to punch a large circle in the center of the stamped image & insert the eyelet. I didn't set the eyelet completely and then punched a hole in the pretty in pink square. I then attached the image to the pretty in pink square and set the eyelet the rest of the way. The crop-o-dile I have doesn’t quite have a long enough reach to do it all in one step. So the easiest way to do it would actually be to use the eyelet setter in the crafter's tool kit, which I ended up doing after the first card. The pretty in pink squares are both the same size and they are (I'll look it up and let you know) and the purely pomegranate square is just 1/8 smaller then the pretty in pink layer. I then poked wholes in the corners and inserted the brads.

February Challenge - 2008

Sorry that I am so late in posting this challenge but after no one participated in January's challenge and some personal issues I've finally gotten time and made the decision to go ahead and post a challenge anyway.

The challenge for this month is to come up with a 2 - 12x12 page using the 2 - 6x6 pages attached shown at this link http://tinyurl.com/29rhgk without losing the simple elegance that the original designer has came up with. The purpose of this challenge is to help me come up with a way to CASE stinkerbell's design but in the 12x12 page format that I personally use. Any and all help & suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I love this card design and how versitle it is. I made a whole bunch of them. Of course part of why I love it so much is because it uses Tempting Turquoise which has to be one of my absolute favorite colors. You could defiantely do this card using the other coordinating colors in the flowers and put different wording in the middle as well.

A New Twist on Photo Holders - November 2007

It was a small group and it was a last minute thing but I wanted to show them that you could make things other then cards. Although they were very simple, I think they were a big hit. January Technique Class - 2008

I made these items at my upline's January technique class. I love the the different ideas she comes up with and really hope that I can get a class going similiar to hers. I like the different card layout we used this month to make the first card, but my favorite project was the little lantern we made. These would be perfect for home decor or even decorations for an outdoor wedding. All that would need to be added would be some christmas lights or a flameless candle and it would be "WOW"

I think they turned out great and plan on making a bunch more of them. They're very elegant but really simple to make. I love the colors though the apricot appeal isn't a color I typically use. Although I've made birthday and thank you cards using here they could very easily be changed to another subject/theme.

I made several of this card because I noticed most of my birthday cards in stock were more girly then masculine so I came up with this one. I thought it could work for both girls & boys but was definately more masculine. I also liked t he idea that it could very easily work for a Halloween Card. I guess that's what I get for using halloween themed designer paper but it's okay. I have alot of birthdays in October so the cards should go over really well.

Wedding Album - December 2007

I finally got the wedding album and surprise completed for my cousin & his wife done. They got married in a wonderful and beautiful ceremony in April 2007 down in the hills of Kentucky. I was lucky enough to be able to attend and had a blast. I wish they lived closer because even though they're distant cousins in relation they are so close in family ties & love. Anyway... after having such a wonderful time in Kentucky visiting and partying I decided I needed to make a surprise for the newlyweds and this album is what I came up with. It took me several months to get it all put together and make the final decisions on what I should do on each page but I think it turned out wonderful and the new bride absolutely loved it.

BOOK RECIPE:

I have bought a bunch of the 7 gypsies board books that I used to make this album. I have found them at several online stories and ebay for reasonable prices. I'm sure some of the local craft stores carry them as well but at the time I bought them I hadn't found the ones I wanted at the local stores I have, so I went online.

To make the book I used a combination of current and retired Stampin’ Up stamp sets including but not limited to doodle alphabet, butterfly of happiness, world tour, in the spotlight, sidekick sayings, perennial friendship, that’s nice, and define your life. The paper and inks used were Petals & Paisley DP, Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Tempting Turquoise, Almost Amethyst, and whisper white. I used mainly craft ink because of the embossing but some classic was used. To add the sparkle I used both Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder. Last but not least I used a wide variety of Stampin’ Up paper punches.

Family Board Book - March 2007

Back in March my upline held a special class where for a small fee we were given a package of Petals & Paisley DP and a board book. We also received the other little pieces of paper that were needed for embellishments.

I still haven't added the pictures to the book but at least it's done except for that. I will be adding the pictures shortly. I am in the process of cleaning the craft room and getting my photos and everything organized in it.

I loved working on the book and though I've only shown you 1/2 the pages the other pages of the book are actually just coordinating paper and the place where the pictures once decided on will be able to go. I also have to do the journaling but I'll wait until pictures have been decided on before I can do the journaling. This is the main reason I have such a hard time scrapbooking ... I can't decide what pictures to put in the book and stuff.

These books are very fun to make and I've since made and put pictures in another book for my cousin's wedding. It was a big hit and I'll post the pictures of that album in another blog entry.

I made several of these cards. They were really easy to make and I love the colors together. I also like how versatile it could be as far as making it in other colors. I didn't think I liked this set that much at first but it has definitely grown on me and become a favorite. I love how it can be used for such a variety of things and for a variety of types of cards as well. I think the more versatile a stamp set is the more valuable it can be and therefore I'm more likely to buy it. I hate just buying a stamp for one thing and being limited. This is not one of those stamp sets.

Halloween Treats - October 2007

I made a ton of cello bags filled with miniture bite-size candy bars with this topper on them for halloween treats. The majority of the treats were suppose to be given to my husband's Schwan's customers but he had a change of jobs at the beginning of October so we ended up having a ton left over. It's okay. We just took the candy out of the cello bags and used it for other things. I did not eat it though if that's what you were thinking. He took it to his new job. I was so happy that he got a new job when he did though a bit frustrated as well just because I had spent so much time and energy on these darn treat bags just to have him not need them anymore. It's okay though. It's all working out for the best. At least this time he didn't complain the whole time we were making them because he was tired of coloring in all the House-Mouse designs like he did at Valentine's & Easter.

Topper Recipe:

Stamps: Batty For You, Arachnophobia
Paper: Only Orange, Vintage Violet, Whisper White

Difficulty (1-Easy 5-Advanced): 1

Directions: To make a bag topper is quite simple and you can make a huge variety of them. I use the small/medium cello bags. They measure about 4 inches across the top. You can fill the bags with just about anything and you can get them from SU, your local hobby stores, and online. I prefer the ones from SU. Anyway... to make the topper it is best I find to use 12x12 paper but you can use other sizes as well. You just end up with extra paper. You start by cutting the paper in 4x4 squares. I then score at 2" and fold in half. Once I do this I put it over the top of the bag and put one staple in the middle. For this halloween design. I took the Batty For You set and stamped in Basic Black on Whisper White paper. I then punched out the design using the 1 1/4" circle Punch. It's easier to stamp and then punch then to try to stamp on the little punched circle. Once I got that done I then punched out vintage violet using the scallop punch. I then attached all the circles to the middle of the scallop punch outs. I put the endorsements over the rough side of the staple so that it can't catch on other things or on the little kids fingers. Just about anything can be used. If you notice from past posts I've attached square images as well as this smaller scalloped image.

December Technique Class - 2007

Another month of Christmas projects created during my upline's technique class.

Working on all these Christmas projects definitely helped me get into the Christmas spirit and come up with some new ideas for next year when I get ready to make some gifts for my friends and family. I wish more of my family understood the hard work and energy that goes into making a gift so that they actually enjoyed the gift a bit more but oh well... such is life I guess.

I think my favorite projects were the gift bags. I think the little bag with the tags is so cute and could definitely be changed to fit any holiday or celebration. The same goes for the big gift bag but the tags were something new to me so I really was in awe by them.

November Technique Class - 2007

November was another month filled with Christmas projects that would make great gifts.

Though I liked making the gift card holder i found it to be a bit tricky and think that there are other gift card holders out there that would work better and be cuter. That's my personal opinion though for what it's worth. I did like the marble tile and actually bought some of them to try to make some more as gifts. I didn't end up having enough time or the craft ink in the colors I wanted to make them for gifts this year but next year I think I'll be making a few for some different people. I really like the set we used here but I don't know if I would use it for anything else and don't really want to spend the money to buy it for just this one project. I'm sure some of you understand where I'm coming from.

Like the past few months entries. We also made a card using the reverse Joseph Coat technique but I loaned that card to my friend with the others before getting a picture of it. Once I have gotten that card back I'll add it to this entry.

October Technique Class - 2007

My upline had a Christmas in October Technique Class so all the projects were winter/christmas related. I loved it and was really inspired.

I ended up loaning out two of the projects to another friend before I got pictures taken so once I get those back I'll add them to this post. In the mean time I hope you enjoy the sparkle tag punch burst ornament.

I love this project the most and have made a few more since then. I plan on making a ton more too in the colors of my living room so they can go on my christmas tree next year. I wanted to make them for this year but didn't end up having enough time so it'll have to wait until next year. The other times I've made them I gave them as a hostess gift at my workshop so no picture of that one. It looked the same as this one so you're not missing out that much. The other time I just did the star part and attached it to a wedding card. I unfortunately gave the card away at the wedding before taking a picture of it. I'm going to try to replicate it for another wedding I have coming up so I'll take a picture this time and get it posted in a separate blog entry. This are sort of tricky to make but are actually really easy once you get the hang of it. You'll need both tag punches that SU sells. The easiest way to do them is to punch out the small punch and then punch the big one around it like a frame. Once you get the little punched tags you attached them to the vellum with glue. I got lazy on the engagment card and just ran them through my Xryon machine. This makes it all alot easier but you have to be careful not to tear the frames apart. I will post a tutorial with photos to make these in another blog entry sometime soon.

August Technique Class - 2007

Here are the cards we made in my upline's August Technique Class. It was a month of different techniques using Vellum. I loved this class and even considered using the candles in wine glasses as a center piece for my friends wedding. After talking to her she's decided to use something else so that's not going to happen but I still think these would work really well for centerpieces at weddings or other events. The other card that isn't shown her right now was loaned to a friend before I got a chance to take a picture. Once I get it back and get a picture taken I'll add it to this post.

I was very surprised on how the bleach effected each piece of paper differently. I was also surprised that I didn't get any bleach on my clothes. I'm notorious for ruining whatever I'm wearing with ink, bleach, glue... whatever can get on my clothes and not come out.

My favorite of the 3 cards is probably the Stem Silhouettes card though I'm not a big fan of the Stem Silhouettes stamp set. Not really sure why I don't like this set that well but I don't. I think I will probably try to do another card similar but using the flower stem from a different set. Maybe I'll use the Embrace Life set since I gave in and got it the other day. Clearly you can tell I'm trying to get caught up on my blog posts again since I'm mentioning a stamp set that wasn't available until January 2008 and this blog is suppose to be for a class that I attended in July 2007. Oh well. Eventually maybe I'll get caught up and the blogs will reflect the current stamp sets and not retired ones.

Floral Coasters for Christmas - January 2008

I love these coasters that I made for my good friend Colleen for Christmas. I know I am really late in getting them to her but she is very understanding and loves them so it was well worth the work and the wait.

I made them using acyclic blocks I got from www.kitchensinkstamps.com. I then used SU Crystal Effects to glue the Dew Drops around the edges and top. I got the Dew Drops at Kitchen Sink Stamps as well. I decided that the coasters needed a little lip to catch the condensation from the cups so I put the Dew Drops on the top edge. I then used my Xyron machine to attach the paper and chipboard coasters to the acyclic blocks. I love the way the flowers turned out. I had seen many different designs where people had stamped an image on designer paper and then cut out the section they wanted and attached that to another piece of paper with the same stamped image. Using this idea I stamped the flower from SU's Embrace Life set onto various colors of the designer prints paper and then cut it out. I then attached it to another piece of designer series paper. I love these coasters and plan on making a lot more for myself and friends in the future. I might also have some on here soon for sale and or prizes for the different challenges.

May Technique Class - 2007

In May my upline's technique class was held on my anniversary so I wasn't able to attend but I still got the completed projects. Below are the projects the other gals made. I love the scrapbook page but I wish there was a place to put more pictures then just one. I guess I can always just leave one on this page and then make another coordinating page that faces it with several other pictures. I have tons of pictures that will work with this page and as usual I just have a hard time picking just one.

I really wish I had been there to make the magic card because even though I have instructions I learn better hands on. I can't say it was easy or not because I've never made one. I do like it and think it is very neat. I love any of the cards that look like they'd be hard to make but really aren't or are more then just the typical flat card that you could buy for a few dollars at the dollar store or hallmark.

September Technique Class - 2007

I made these projects during the September Technique Class that my upline held.

I love the way the little bag turned out. I would never thought it would be so easy to make but it was. They are so easy I would consider making some to pass out to trick-or-treaters but I don't really want to spend all the money on the supplies to do that when I don't know how many I would need to make. I would make them in small batches though for different gatherings with friends, family, co-workers, etc. though.

I also love how the scrapbook page turned out. I'm not much of a scrapbooker yet but I'm working on it so the more page ideas my upline provides during class the more interested and excited I get about working on some myself. I haven't finished this page completely yet but at least it has a photo on it which is better then the others I've done at class.

Celebrating Frienship - October 2007

I decided to participate in a monthly RAK Attack in one of the online groups I'm in and this is the card I came up with to send out. It is quite simple to make though I wish I had went ahead and put white embossing powder onto the white craft ink to make the wording stand out a bit more but it's okay. Hind-sight is 20/20 right. I'll probably make more of these cards but in different colors in the future to send out so all my friends who read this blog keep your eyes open and don't forget to act surprise when you get the card.

Belated Argyle Birthday - August 2007

I made a couple of this card for some of my guy friend's who had birthdays earlier in the year that just slipped by without me noticing. This year seemed like it just flew by and that the more I thought about something the more likely I was to forget it once I was suppose to remember, which made this card and the saying absolutely perfect. I plan on making some more using this design but in more girly colors for some of my female friends.

Quick & Easy Christmas Tags - December 2006

I made all the tags for my Christmas presents this year. Since I only had 3 sets that would work for Christmas at the time I was limited in what I could come up with but I think I did a pretty good job. Not to mention the presents had to be wrapped and delivered in less then 2 hours.

I used a variety of stamps from Quick Cards, Sleigh Full of Toys, Snow Flurries, and one other can't remember the name. I used basic black, brilliant blue, and bashful blue inks. The paper was just scraps of non-SU that I had and of course color pencils to color in the designs.

One Sheet of Petals - April 2007

This is my spin on a one sheet wonder card set. I didn't have a whole piece of white paper to make a one sheet wonder or very much time so I cased a design I saw on SCS and came up with the following 2 cards. I also didn't have any of the petals and paisley paper so I made my own strip of yellow paper with the white flowers on it. I'm very happy with the way the cards turned out considering all the difficulties with the limited amount of supplies I had.

Easter Mice - March 2007

I made a ton of these... 600 or so... for my husband to pass out to his Schwan's customers. It will be the last time I make treat bags for him to pass out that require coloring. He complained the whole time even after promising not to when he talked me into it.

I love these as nice little goody bags for parties and such... I just don't think they're a very good idea for mass quantities anymore. I guess they could be depending on how many you need and what supplies you're using. I wouldn't recommend them though if your stamped image for the front is one that needs to be colored in. My husband has already started to check out the House-Mouse Halloween designs, but it's not going to happen. If I make these again at Halloween I'm going to use a roller to put the design on the 4x4 paper and some other stamp on the front that doesn't require coloring, so all I have to do is cut, punch, stamp and attach everything together.

There were 2 House-Mouse Easter Mice designs stamped on White paper. Then I took those stamped mice and attached them to 3 different colors of paper (purple, green, & yellow). I stamped the Easter eggs from the SU set Tag Time onto 4x4 squares in the 3 same colors as the mice were attached to, and folded them in half. Once all the bags were filled with pastel/Easter M&M's I put the pieces of paper that were folded in half over the top and stapled them close. The mice were then attached over the rough side of the staple.

The Rustic Bathroom Is Finally Finished - October 2007

I made this piece of wall art for my mom's newly re-designed bathroom. The floor now has leaves on it, while the shower curtain is stripes in various rustic shades including More Mustand, Real Rust, and Handsome Hunter with some Gold too. Mom decided to go with solid towels in More Mustard and Real Rust or as close as you can get to those. I think she needs another piece of artwork or a bigger picture frame for the wall this is hanging on but really like how it all came together. I'm still not a big fan of the floor.

The other pieces are just tiles that we picked up at Kohl's that applied Gold EP too so they would match and tie into the rest of the room a bit better. I think my mom wished there had been more then just the 2 leaves to pick from, but at least she got some choice on the other picture.

Now to just get mom's other bathroom decorated. I think I'll enjoy it much more since it's in my favorite color... tempting turquoise.

Baby Announcements - September 2007

I made a bunch of these lovely blue cards for a friend to announce the arrival of her second baby boy who was born at the end of September.

I can't remember the name of the technique I used but basically I used versamark and clear embossing powder to stamp the hands and the words I'm here on the front and then used the brayer to apply brilliant blue ink all over the paper, so that the bashful blue paper only showed through where I had embossed the hands and words in the clear EP. Before doing the embossing though I stamped the bashful blue paper using the Aida background stamp in bashful blue ink to give it a little bit of texture. You can see this in the hand prints though the picture doesn't really show this too well. The Aida background stamp is also stamped on the layer of bashful blue paper on the inside of the card as well. The feet are stamped in Brilliant Blue and cut out then popped up on dimensionals so they can be used as photo corners.

MAP CHALLENGE #2

For January's Map Challenge I've created a map of a scrapbook page I created recently. Attached to this blog are the sketch and my design.

I designed a Christmas page but your designs can be of any theme and use any color combo you'd like. Submissions can use any brand products although Stampin' Up products are preferred since I'm a Stampin' Up Demonstrator and would like to be able to use pictures of the samples to create items for workshops and swaps in the future.

The deadline for submitting your own designs using the map is January 31st. Please email all submissions to fayem.mitchell@gmail.com with the "MAP CHALLENGE 2" in the subject line.

Everyone who submits a design using the above map will have their name entered into a paint can and my husband will draw the name out for the winner on February 1st. A blog with the picture of the winning submission & copyright info will be posted within the first week after the winner is notified.

The price for this second challenge will be lunch tin decorated in your favorite SU designer series paper, so please put your favorite current SU designer series paper and favorite coordinating SU colors in the email along with your submission.

Christmas Scrapbook Page

Here is a scrapbook page I made for an online yahoo/msn craft group I belong to. I hope you enjoy the page. The initial idea was obtained from SCS but I ended up changing the design slightly.

All products are Stampin' Up. I used Season of Joy stamp set, real red, old olive, whisper white card stock and dashing designer paper, Pewter hardware, and the ticket corner punch and 1 1/4 circle punch. I can't remember the name of the other corner punch. I used old olive organza ribbon and real red gingham. And of course the SU Markers, classic ink - Real Red & Old Olive.

I received my new free Spring/Summer 2008 Collection Catalog and it's amazing. I can't barely wait until January 3rd to be able to order some things. I can't believe how many of the items are so very me!!! There are still quite a few that aren't but even those I can make work and have grown fond of just because they're so versatile. MAP CHALLENGE # 1

For the first map challenge of many monthly challenges I'm going to post I am going to give everyone alittle bit of freedom. I have attached a map that I think could easily be used as a scrapbook page or card so for this challenge you can do just that make a card or scrapbook page. There is no size restrictions on the card or scrapbook page, the only restriction is that it has to follow the map. Submissions can use any brand products although Stampin' Up products are preferred since I'm a Stampin' Up Demonstrator and would like to be able to use pictures of the samples to create cards for workshops and swaps in the future.

Getting Caught Up

Well I'm finally getting caught up on my posts and thought I would let you all know. I still have quite a few to post but I have at least gotten labels on the backs of them telling me what stamp sets and colors of paper and such I used and they're all in a nice pile waiting for me to take pictures of them. Once I get the pictures taken it won't take long at all to upload them and then share them here in the blog.

I also have great news... because I got the surprise done and took pictures of it already for my cousin & his wife. They got married back in April and I decided to make a surprise for them. I can't share too many details just in case she checks out the blog. I don't think she does because she doesn't have internet at the house but she does check her email and stuff at work which means she could very easily have clicked the blog link from my signature line.

Anyway... I have gotten alot done lately but still have alot to do. I'm hoping to finish up on some more things this weekend and will hopefully share them with you soon. Christmas cards are the big project this weekend. Must get those done and sent out before Christmas comes and goes.

June Technique Class - 2007

My upline's technique class in June was all about movement, so we made a waterfall card, spinner card, and pop up card. I think the spinner card was probably my favorite though the pop up was probably the easiest.

This is my first attempt at making a waterfall card. It's a good thing my upline was there helping and had done them before because without her help and assistance in teaching this technique in her monthly technique class I don't think I would have ever figured it out or even tried it. It was actually pretty easy once I got the hang of it and I can foresee myself trying to make more of the cards in the future. It definately was an evening of new techniques and learning. Along with the Waterfall card we also learned out to make spinner cards and pop-up cards. I love the way all the cards turned out, and I have already cased the spinner card for my Afternoon of Stamping with Friends class. It was a big hit with my friend's teenage daughter.

Afternoon of Stamping with Friends - June 2007

I made this card with a friend and her daughter per their request. Actually I decided we were making a triangle-fold card during our afternoon of stamping and they picked the colors and stamp set. It turned out pretty good I think since it was a complete whim as far as the stamps and colors. First time in a long time I haven't cased someone else's idea, or at least not on purpose.

We also made the following card. It is a complete case other then colors which my friend's daughter picked out. I'm sorry I don't recall who I cased it from. She had been wanting to use this stamp set for a while and her favorite color is green so I quick looked up a design I knew would take too long to make. This was the third card of the day and I was starting to lose some of my patience. Hyper and indecisive don't mix well with me for a long period of time and this just happened to be one of those days.

Graduation Thanks - May 2007

I made several of this card for my brother to send out after graduation to say thanks for all the gifts. According to my mom they were a big hit. I hope that because they were such a big hit that maybe some of the people will ask me to make some cards for them in the future. It would be nice to be able to at least make a little bit of what I spend on the craft. If it doesn't generate any future business, oh well, because it's just for fun and as much as I'd like to be able to quit my real job and just stay home and craft I don't see that happening anytime soon.

April Technique Class - 2007

I made these cards at my upline's April technique class.

I had seen tons of talk about embossing a pop tab but was a bit afraid to try it myself at home so I asked her if we could do it during class and she said yes and came up with this beautiful card design. It's really too bad this stamp set is retired now. I know she's going to miss it and I was finally warming up to it myself. Oh well there are plenty of other stamp sets out there.

We also did another card using hole punches which is very fun. I wasn't so sure about the frog when we started but it turned out really cute and am glad I gave him a chance. I think with some slightly different colors that this card could be used very easily for a boy's birthday.

My favorite card project of the night though was the triangle fold card we made. I have already cased this card design several times. I love how complicated it looks and yet it is very simple. That is if you get the measurements right and fold on the score lines in the correct direction. All things you learn fairly quickly if you've messed up.

I made this for a Christmas in July card swap I'm involved in. I decided I wanted to make several cards and send them out in a little packet. I had just did the dazzling diamonds technique in class and really loved it. Actually I just love sparkles and the fact that this gave me an excuse to play in my sparkles and create a cool card using embossing was the greatest thing ever.

I made these cards for my brother & his girlfriend who both graduated with their 4 year degrees. I used their school colors and even though they went to different schools the colors were still the same so I got lucky. I really like how these cards turned out and hope to make some more using different colors so that I'm stocked up. I might if I can manage make a bunch using the local school colors and see if I can sell some of them around graduation next year. We'll just have to wait and see.

Sell-a-bration Open House - February 2007

I made these cards to use a newly acquired set & to stock up on some different cards. I actually won this stamp set as a door prize at my upline's Sell-a-bration Open House. I had been admiring her card that resembles the first card I made here and decided that I really wanted the stamp set that was used to make it. Only problem is the stamp set was no longer available. I thought to myself I could go to eBay and get it but I really didn't know if I wanted it that badly. Well it wasn't long before the door prizes were drawn and when my name was called and I got a chance to look through the basket of prizes much to my surprise this stamp set was in there so of course I picked it out. I didn't have the word punch when I made these cards so I just had to wing the little round tabs, as I'm sure you can tell they are a bit loop-sided, but that's okay because they still look nice.

There is a story behind the crab being on the front... she was in Mexico for her 30th wedding anniversary and encountered a huge crab blocking the door to the hotel door and claimed it snapped at her and wouldn't let her go by. No one else saw the crab except her and so she's been getting teased about it ever since. HEHE!!!

It's a Fairy-Tale Wedding - April 2007

I made this card for my cousin's wedding. I was told by my namesake that the wedding colors were this weird blue, purple, with some silver. I though this must mean that the color was periwinkle so I went with the closest thing to that I could find in my paper stash and came up with this card. The colors were not close to the wedding colors at all but that's okay the card still turned out really nice.

I'm sure since since I'm now writing this post several months later it might be okay but I am not going to risk upsetting her so I'm going to keep it off my blog and out of SCS still until she tells me otherwise. For the non-posted card we used the polished stone method. I have heard many people say they hate that technique though I'm not sure why because I found it to be fairly easy and the results were stunning. I wasn't thrilled with the way mine looked exactly but I could tell if I hadn't done such a quick and sort of sloppy job with the metallic ink that it could have been a lot better.

I didn't have the Remembering You kit/set so I had to do some alterations to come up with something similar. I used the same basic layout and just changed the stamps used. I also didn't have white embossing powered so I just used white craft ink instead. The EP has been ordered now.

I had made a magnet photo frame in a technique's class and when I went to find more the metal stands that we used I couldn't find any of them anywhere. I've searched high and low and decided that my dear friend who wanted me to make 10 of them for her would just have to settle on something I could find plenty of ... metal cd tins. I got a bunch from eBay for really cheap and this is the first one I came up with. She picked the color combo... saying she wanted some of them pink and orange and some of the green and purple but otherwise for me to be creative.

I also love the Au Chocolat Designer Paper SU had in the spring mini, and am terribly disappointed by the fact it didn't make it into the new 2007 Idea Book.

Lots of Changes

I have made quite a few changes to the layout of my page and will be making more as I figure some of the tricks out. There will also be a lot of new posts coming soon with the latest designs and some of my past stamped designs as well. I'm going to try to make them more user friendly with recipes and dimensions and everything. I'm even going to try to put up some tutorials. Anyone with pointers please let me know because I'll probably need some help.

I am so sorry that I haven't posted more to my blog. I do plan to start posting more regularly again very soon. Right now things are a bit hectic. I will spare you all the details.

My goal between now and then end of July, I was going to say June but that isn't really realistic... anyway... the end of July is to get my current blog enteries updated with the copyrighted photos, and to start posting new blogs with my newly designed cards. I have several that have been created for a while and I haven't taken the time to post them. This is the plan. I also plan on offering different blog events and tutorials. We'll see how it all goes. Hopefully things will work out in the long run.

Back to work I go. ... I'll try to post or work on updating the blog very soon.

Life's Frustrations

I'm not even sure where to begin this blog but I figured I needed to post something in regards to why I haven't posted anything in over a month. It's not because I haven't had anything to say or have forgotten about the blog sitting here... it's just because I haven't had any time. Nothing has gone right lately and though I have tried to have some me time it just gets ruined. Take this past weekend and week for example... since I don't honestly remember anything before that... so I have a rough week at work and plan on doing some household cleaning and a lot of relaxing over the Easter weekend, since there will be no family gatherings in Springfield, and I'm not traveling to the Quad Cities for any either... sounds like a great plan and would have been had I not been sitting at my computer trying to get some things caught up on and talking to my best friend in the whole wide world when my brother's girlfriend mentions the water on the floor. I'm like what water?!? Then I see it... the hazy dank water that comes from the sewer drain in the laundry room. Damn thing backed up again... mind you this happened once before less then a year ago. I'm not a happy camper. I quick get off the phone and call my landlord who doesn't answer the phone... typical... then I call the emergency line he has set up for his business and tell them I have sewage in the basement. As they put my hold and I'm trying to figure out where to put my stuff and what stuff definitely has to be moved so as not to come in contact with the "stuff" while doing this I realize not only do I have this black icky substance which I'm sure is some form of sewage moldy stuff that builds up in the drains... but this time I also have actual pieces of poop sitting on the floor. This makes me even more upset and the poor lady had to hear about it when she picked the phone back up. Needless to say we couldn't stay at home and had to stay at a hotel for the night, which the landlord is going to pay for... thank God. The plumber came out and unclogged the drain on Saturday but the clean up crew didn't show up until Wednesday. We've been living with this stinky icky smell for 6 days. Next time it happens I'm moving out and the landlord can deal with it all on his own.

This is not the only frustrating thing that has been occurring in my life as of lately... it's just the most recent and there for easiest to remember. I mean who can forget the mess and stink when the basement still has an eerie musky shitty smell to it. I've been frebreezing and lysoling and air freshening the basement like crazy. Even lit a few candles for a bit when I was home and trying to work on my crafts. I'm going to try to fix a few of my blogs with the photos in them so bear with me as I work on that and hopefully I'll get to blog more often now that things are supposedly calming down and becoming more relaxing. Not sure who honestly thinks that but I'm having a hard time believing them. I wish it was Friday already.

Masculine Series II

While making the other boy card I also came up with this design that can be used for both boys and girls depending on the color combos. This combo definitely works better for boys I think though. I actually gave this card with the brown ribbon to my husband for his birthday. He said it was his favorite of the different combos. I like it because it's simple but sort of elegant in a manly way. I am going to definitely play with it some more to come up with some more color combos and different additions using some different pieces of hardware and possibly some other techniques. I learned the shaving cream technique the other night at the local demo meeting and I think it would work really nicely to make some different swirly designs similar to the background on this one. I am aware though that this one has some actual clear nautical shapes in it... those would be missing from the shaving cream technique but I still think I could come up with some really neat paper that way that would work for this series. Below are the other two card designs in this series so far.

I realized while making the Stripes & Flowers Series cards that I didn't really have any cards that would be truly acceptable by boys and men. So I started playing with the different stamps I had that weren't flowery or girly and came up with this card. It could definitely be made more flowery for girls but it works with these colors for boys and men. At this time there is only the one color combo and design for this card, but there will be more in the future as I've gotten some more stamps, ink colors, and paper.

Birthday Gifts for Rebecca's Kids - Feb 2007

I made all of the following items quickly for Rebecca's kids. They have birthdays near Christmas so they don't celebrate until the end of February. I was able to get these made just in time to send out and get them to her before the birthday party. I made 8 bags and 8 bags and then individual birthday cards of the kids. I believe I missed on birthday card but was able to just send a pre-made one that I got with my house-mouse order. Next year I'll be prepared and will come up with a hand-made design for all of the individual birthday cards. I'm only going to post 2 of the big bags because posting all 8 when they're basically the same would just be a waste of room in the blog and would take alot of time and since I have so many more things to post I don't want to take the time to do that.
